Name: Blagojche Mosharevski
Qualification: New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Advanced Support) (Level 4)
For Blagojche Mosharevski, it was his love for people and a passion for helping others that prompted a career change in 2020.
Now two years on with Levels 2, 3 and 4 completed, the graduate feels confident in his role as an in-home carer.
“I used to work as a chef at different restaurants. I was doing this for 12 years before I decided to change my career and become a caregiver because I’ve always liked working with people, and I enjoy helping others.”
To better support his clients, Mosharevski felt compelled to upskill by enrolling in a Health and Wellbeing program.
“I’d never worked with people with disabilities and this kind of job was new and challenging for me.
“The position of a caregiver includes responsibilities that require a lot of knowledge and skills to ensure clients receive the best care possible.”
The ability to continue caring for his clients full-time, while studying with a reputable provider, was a big drawcard for Mosharevski.
“I chose to study with NZTC because I heard a lot of positive feedback from my workmates who obtained their qualifications from the college. Also, the flexible workplace learning allowed me to fit my work schedule around my study.”
Beginning with Level 2, the now Level 4 graduate says the advanced skills and strategies he has learnt about client care has allowed him to grow and develop as a healthcare professional.
The programs provide students with extremely essential information to make sure we understand different topics comprehensively. The course guides are always supported with diagrams, videos, and pictures that helped me to better understand the topic.
“Through my NZTC study journey I have gained a new insight into caregiving, where a caregiver is a person who supports their clients physically and emotionally, and becomes their advocate.”
He finds being an advocate for his clients, who have physical and intellectual disabilities, and supporting them to go about their daily lives “extremely rewarding”.
“It gives me great satisfaction to help my clients to achieve their goals and live a fulfilled life. I value the companionship with my clients. Making them smile and laugh and bringing happiness and joy to their lives is the most enjoyable part of my job.”
