Level 4 student gains new knowledge, confidence and perspectives

Name: Aurora Tofan

Qualification: New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Advanced Support) (Level 4)

With a diverse career history behind her, Aurora Tofan says it was her mother that first inspired her to consider a position in healthcare.

“I have held various jobs throughout my lifetime, including working as a primary school teacher, waitress, librarian and a stay-at-home parent. However, when my own mum was diagnosed with cancer, I looked after her and realised that it was really rewarding to be able to offer support and care.

“I started thinking about what it would be like to work in the healthcare sector, and I had a strong feeling that I would love every moment of it.”

Aurora chose to study the New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Advanced Support) (Level 4) with New Zealand Tertiary College (NZTC) after learning that the qualification is NZQA approved and internationally recognised.

“I have enjoyed everything about my learning journey so far. I am constantly supported throughout my studies by great facilitators who are professionally qualified and have extensive academic and industry experience.”

Access to an online discussion forum where students and lecturers can converse and share knowledge is an ongoing highlight for Aurora.

“I have been able to gain new perspectives from those working in various environments and with different mindsets, which is an experience I don’t often get while collaborating with the same people in a retirement village setting. It’s providing me with more to think about, as well as further strategies to bring into the workplace.”

Aurora says her studies are giving her greater confidence and knowledge, and she now feels excited about the possibilities ahead.

“I am looking forward to becoming a senior caregiver once I graduate, and I hope to pursue further studies in the future so I can move into an even more advanced role.

“It has also been really reassuring to have a stable job and income during these times. Finishing my Level 4 will create even more opportunities, and more than anything, it will provide me with the ability to make a positive difference in people’s lives.”
