Zero fee studies support Level 4 student
Rasika Nishadhi Batuwanthudawa (Nishi’s) journey into healthcare was motivated by a deeply personal experience. In her home country of Sri Lanka, she cared for her late mother during the final phase of her life – a role that left an indelible impact on her.
After relocating to New Zealand and seeking employment, Nishi felt compelled to extend her caregiving skills to support the elderly, inspired by her prior experience with her mother.
Balancing her life as a working mother with two school-aged children, Nishi needed a flexible and supportive learning environment, and NZTC proved to be the perfect fit.
“Flexibility in my studies was crucial. I was looking for a place where I could do my studies during my tight schedule, at my own pace and at a reasonable cost.
“I received the fees free offer from NZTC, and studying via NZTC Online enables me to read course material and complete assignments during my free time, usually in the evening, after finishing my daily tasks.”
With Level 3 successfully completed, Nishi is currently enrolled in the New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Advanced Care and Support) (Level 4), further refining her caregiving skills and knowledge.
She says her studies with NZTC have not only enhanced her theoretical knowledge but also equipped her with practical skills she applies daily in her role as a Healthcare Assistant at Ngaio Marsh Retirement Village.
“I enjoy all the courses, but so far my favourite is HW433: Person-Centred Care Practices. This gave valuable insights into formulating care plans with smart goals.
“I have been involved in care planning at my workplace. But after completing this course, I’m able to approach it in a more guided way. I love applying these newfound skills to provide top-notch service to clients, ultimately enhancing their quality of life.”
Nishi finds her work extremely rewarding, and with a passion for elderly care, she aspires to pursue higher studies in nursing, with a goal to serve the aged care sector.
“As a healthcare professional, I find inner peace in providing the best possible assistance to others.”
