World Forum winner announced

Early Childhood Education News

Angii Leevers, an NZTC Associate Teacher, has been gifted a full World Forum registration valued at over $1200.

The World Forum on Early Care and Education is taking place in Auckland from 9 - 12 May and NZTC wanted to share this special global ECE opportunity with a lucky Associate Teacher.

Angii, a multi-tasking mum of three, juggles her busy day job as a centre manager in Mt Wellington, Auckland, alongside postgraduate studies, and volunteer initiatives like the EduFiji Kidz Charitable Trust, which she founded in 2011.

This non-profit organisation supports and empowers early childhood teachers in Fiji through training, and raises funds and awareness to provide children at Fijian kindergartens with educational resources.

During a trip to Fiji in June 2016, Angii’s colleagues at EduFiji Kidz spoke highly of the World Forum and encouraged her to try to attend the event in Auckland in 2017.

In her winning entry, Angii shared, “New Zealand provides such wonderful training opportunities for teachers and, knowing that in certain areas of the Pacific such as Fiji there are a shortage of trainers, we wanted to help out and make a difference.”

More than 800 early childhood professionals from over 80 nations are expected to gather for the World Forum in Auckland this year, providing a unique platform for early childhood leaders and teachers alike to gain insight into critical issues in the field and participate in thought-provoking conversations with peers from different backgrounds and with different perspectives.

“What an amazing opportunity to be able to talk shop with people who live and breathe early childhood. When early childhood professionals get together and start talking about what they’re passionate about, ideas seem to just come out of nowhere,” said Angii.

She hopes to share the knowledge that she gains from the World Forum with her team at the centre in Auckland, as well as beyond our shores through EduFiji Kidz in the Pacific.
