What happens after enrolling at NZTC?
NZTC offers online and blended learning options so our students can study around their family and work commitments, but moving countries can be daunting as an international student.
From the moment prospective students connect with a member of our International Team, they’re treated like part of the NZTC whānau (family) and will get access to plenty of dedicated connection and support as they work towards a globally-recognised qualification.
This starts with orientation, hosted by our Pastoral Support Team.
“Because we have students all over New Zealand, and some still overseas at the time of orientation, these are run online so everyone can join us,” says NZTC Student Services Manager, Barbara Scanlan.
Students can look forward to presentations from different teams around the college, with lots of time to ask questions and get familiar with NZTC.
Experiencing orientation in their own environment can help international students to feel comfortable with New Zealand and the college, explains Barbara, who dedicates a lot of time to making them feel welcome and supported.
Following orientation, international students are also provided with a 24/7 emergency phone line and the Pastoral Support team have regular check-ins with each student.
“My role, and the role of my team, is to support students to be successful in their studies. There’s always a way to reach us when you need help, no matter what time of day,” says Barbara.
“We also encourage them to find activities to do in their downtime and help them when they struggle with communication in their ECE centre, or when they‘re unsure about cultural expectations or differences.
“We want every international student to know that they’re not on their own, we’re full of tips and tricks to help them make the most of both their study and life in New Zealand.”
