Responding to the Needs of the Sector

Early childhood education plays a vital role in supporting the learning and development of tamariki during their formative years. As demand for qualified teachers continues to grow, accessible and supported pathways into the profession are increasingly important.

The Graduate Diploma in Teaching (ECE) provides a practical route for degree holders who are looking to make a meaningful contribution to the sector. By reducing financial barriers, New Zealand Tertiary College aims to support the development of a skilled and diverse teaching workforce.

Learning to Teach in Practice

Throughout the programme, students gain insight into how young children learn and develop, while building the skills to plan engaging, play-based learning experiences.

There is also a strong focus on teaching within the context of Aotearoa New Zealand, including culturally responsive practice when working with tamariki and whānau.

A Flexible Approach to Teacher Education

The Graduate Diploma in Teaching (ECE) is designed to support students through a balance of academic study and practical experience. With flexible online delivery, the programme allows students to continue managing work, whānau, and other commitments while preparing for a career in teaching.

This approach reflects NZTC’s focus on providing accessible, relevant, and high-quality education that aligns with the realities of students’ lives.
