Spotlight on: New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Level 2)

NZTC Cares

Are you in the healthcare sector and want to complete a qualification, or are looking to enter the industry? NZTC’s New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Level 2) is a great entry program, providing students with the entry-level knowledge and practice to work in a range of healthcare settings, including aged-care facilities, rest homes, home-care support, and hospitals. It’s also a great option if you’re already in the sector and want to complete a qualification, but need help getting back into the study mindset or refreshing your academic skills.

Our students love this program for the flexibility of online learning through our NZTC Online platform, and the emphasis on providing ethical and safe care while following a personalised care plan.

Below is a brief overview of what students can expect during their studies:

Program highlights:

  • Gain transferrable skills and knowledge valued across the healthcare sector

  • Learn about ethics and culturally sensitive healthcare

  • Pathway into further study

  • Online learning around existing work and family commitments

Program structure

The Level 2 program is made up of seven integrated courses, studied over 12 weeks. Unlike other universities that offer several courses at the same time, students study one course at a time through online learning, which gives them more flexibility around their work and other commitments. Students will also be required to complete 80 hours of work placement in a healthcare facility during the program.

Resources and support

As part of their study, students are provided with ongoing access to learning support, resources and discussion forums through our NZTC Online platform, where they can connect with their lecturers and other students. Students also receive wraparound holistic support from our IT and Pastoral Support teams, who are just an email or phone call away to help with issues such as technology or assignment submissions. We value our students and do our best to ensure they are supported from the first day of their application through to graduation.

Opportunities for graduates

The Level 2 Certificate is a foundation program that helps students to understand what the role of a Healthcare Assistant includes, and the potential needs of clients requiring assistance, care and support. It also gives students a chance to gauge where they are at in terms of their literacy and writing skills, and work on any possible gaps.

Graduates will have the confidence to go on to complete the Level 3 program, expanding their future learning and employment opportunities.
