NZTC’s Health and Wellbeing program pathway explained

NZTC Cares

New Zealand Tertiary College began offering Health and Wellbeing study programs in 2017 to support the sector’s need for qualified Healthcare Assistants. Since then, we have grown our offerings to three New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) approved Health and Wellbeing programs that complement students’ practical work in healthcare settings.

These programs have been designed so students can progress through a pathway to higher levels of study.

What qualification a student chooses will depend on their level of experience in the sector. Many career changers or students new to the industry enter the pathway at Level 2 or Level 3, and generally students who start at these levels will continue on to the Level 4 program. Level 4 is often an upskilling opportunity for experienced Healthcare Assistants.

However, all our programs provide students with the skills needed to succeed in a range of in-demand healthcare roles, and a strong foundation of knowledge that can be built on with higher-level qualifications.

Learning online alongside their current work in the sector, students are able to balance upskilling with existing commitments and combine their practical work with theory to improve the level of care they provide their clients.

“We are committed to working closely with providers to identify and understand their needs, making sure that our program pathway addresses and solves those requirements,” says Health and Wellbeing Program Lead, Maxine Farquhar.

“We’re proud to offer a series of programs that provide the sector with qualified, competent and caring healthcare professionals.”
