NZTC Professional Learning Portal

News

New Zealand Tertiary College (NZTC) has launched a new learning module through its Professional Learning Portal – a free online platform that provides early childhood professionals with accessible opportunities to strengthen their knowledge and teaching practice.

Launched at the Early Childhood Council Conference 2025, the portal currently features 10 tailored modules aligned with Te Whāriki and Our Code, Our Standards. Each module explores key teaching concepts, promotes both personal and professional reflection, and can be used individually by new kaiako or collaboratively.

The goal is to support educators to strengthen their knowledge and develop more intentional teaching practices that benefit ngā tamariki.

The Cultural Competence and Intercultural Pedagogy module, in particular, equips teachers with the tools to reflect on their own worldviews, embrace diverse cultural perspectives, and foster respectful, inclusive learning environments. It encourages kaiako to engage in culturally responsive practice, partner meaningfully with whānau, and recognise the richness that different cultures bring to the early learning setting.

“Making these resources available to all kaiako was core to the design of this portal. NZTC is committed to sharing knowledge and enhancing practice across the ECE sector. Our plan is to release more modules and grow this portal to be an accessible learning tool for all,” says Chelsea Bracefield, NZTC’s Academic People and Partnerships Manager.

Initiatives like this reflect NZTC’s ongoing commitment to providing accessible professional learning for early childhood professionals, supporting kaiako across Aotearoa to deliver responsive and culturally grounded education.
