NZTC celebrates core values

Early Childhood Education News

Creative, inspiring, engaging and fun activities are all part of the annual Values Month tradition at New Zealand Tertiary College (NZTC).

Each week of August is dedicated to one of the College’s four values - Vision, Heart, Competence and Spirit. The NZTC team in India, Auckland and Christchurch enjoyed engaging and reflecting with the values in insightful ways.

“The month of August each year is where we take the time to reflect on our College values and consider how they are applied in the everyday tasks, responsibilities and opportunities that are presented to us as NZTC team members,” said NZTC Chief Executive Selena Fox.

The NZTC team let their creativity run wild by making Vision masquerade masks and writing an inspirational quote or proverb on a Spirit frame, as well as enjoying a yummy gift of Heart chocolates and testing their Competence with a unique NZTC Rubik's Cube.

Each week staff nominated colleagues who embodied one of the College’s values and acknowledgments were given to the top nominees and nominators which Fox says were extremely difficult to choose.

Award winners included a Videographer who had increased Vision after the birth of his baby, a Lecturer who brought in a blood pressure monitor to check her colleague’s Heart health, an Enrolments Manager in India who’s positivity is contagious, and two Pastoral Support staff – one who showed Competence caring for a student in a life-threatening condition and one who showed Spirit by finding out more about different faiths which will enable her to support our diverse range of students more effectively.

The month ended with a staff afternoon at NZTC’s Auckland and Christchurch Campuses. Lunch and laughter were shared as the College reflected on the hard work already achieved and looked towards the future.

Staff members celebrating their five and ten year anniversaries were honoured with acknowledgments and awards to Anna Niles, Avril Fortuin, Daniel Lister, Brent Simpson, Radhika Singh and Rebekah Clearwater for their five years of dedication to the College.

Lecturer Ra Keelan and General Manager James Ward celebrated their 10 year anniversary. Fox honoured them for their decade of outstanding work, commitment to quality for students, dedication and the way they embodied the College’s values in their roles.

Fox shared with the team the words of Psychologist, Author and Leadership Consultant Dr Henry Cloud, ‘there are few things better than getting to work with people you enjoy’.

The wealth of inspiring stories about the NZTC team’s commitment to supporting national and global early childhood teacher education shared during the NZTC 2016 August Month of Values was the true message of the past, present and future NZTC potential said Fox.
