How Amandeep used NZTC’s lowered fees to fulfil her dreams
Starting a new year with a new challenge can be intimidating, but for Amandeep it was an opportunity to fulfil her dream. Amandeep is a working mother who discovered her passion for early childhood education, thanks to her young son, and is now working towards her teacher registration with the Graduate Diploma in Teaching (Early Childhood Education).
Originally from India, Amandeep moved to Aotearoa in 2018 to pursue a diploma in applied management Level 7. While caring for her four-year-old son and also working at Newshoots Children’s Centre, she found herself longing for a way she could make a meaningful difference in children’s lives. The flexibility of NZTC’s online programs proved to be the perfect fit for her busy life.
“When my son started going to the daycare centre, I thought I could be someone who could give love to children when their parents weren’t around,” she shares. “I can’t go to college because I work full-time and have a family to look after, an online study option is just what I needed to fulfil my dream.”
Amandeep had already completed a bachelor's degree in India so NZTC’s 1.33 year Graduate Diploma was the best option for her as she now works towards pay parity. Her favourite course, Inclusive Early Childhood Education, changed her perspective on supporting students with special needs.
“I always thought about giving them extra love and care but never thought about making them independent and educating them,” she reflects.
NZTC’s significantly lowered fees have also been instrumental in her learning journey. The financial support allowed her to focus on her studies without taking out loans, allowing her to make higher education more accessible while balancing full-time work and family life. The opportunity to upskill at a significantly lowered cost ended up not just being a relief to Amandeep, it was key to unlocking her potential.
Now close to graduating she is looking forward to becoming a registered teacher and supporting students in early childhood education.
