Long serving team members honoured during Christmas celebrations
The dedication, passion and hard work of New Zealand Tertiary College (NZTC) staff members was acknowledged during two days of Christmas celebrations held at the college’s campuses in December.
Chief Executive Selena Fox led the events in Auckland and Christchurch, sharing her appreciation of the extensive efforts made by college staff to ensure NZTC students and their support is wrapped in Vision, Heart, Competence and Spirit.
“This year we have continued to serve our students and our sectors in enabling, difference-making ways. We have had the opportunity to gift into more students than ever and I honour each and every team member for their daily commitment to outstanding,” shared Fox.
A highlight of the day was the annual Values Awards, which saw four staff members celebrated for being outstanding exemplars of the college’s values of Vision, Heart, Competence and Spirit.
Senior Administrator Nathalie Hyland was the recipient of this year’s Vision Award, in recognition of her ability to get any job done, no matter how big or how long it will take.
NZTC staff celebrating in Christchurch
2019 Heart Award recipient was Program Leader (Postgraduate) Barbara Scanlan, who was celebrated for the compassion she shows not just to her students, but to everyone she comes into contact with.
Administrator (Registry) Suzanne Zhang received the Competence Award, in acknowledgement of her ability to complete any task to a high standard and work as a team player.
And the recipient of the Spirit Award was Application Testing Team Lead Juliya Raja Mani, for her outstanding dedication to her work and always being there to help solve a problem.
Long service awards were also presented to those reaching significant milestones, with Registrar James Clark, Administration Manager Heather Bennetts and Academic Administrator Margaret Kench acknowledged for their five-year commitment to the college.
Lecturer Pearl D’Silva was congratulated for her tenth year at NZTC, a personal and professional journey that has led her over 10,000 kilometres from India to New Zealand.
“Working at NZTC has opened me up to such diverse opportunities. I am humbled that I get to nurture our students’ spirits as they grow to be advocates of our tamariki,” said Pearl.
“Over the years, I’ve been given opportunities to lead the Academic Team in India and the Bachelor of Education (ECE) program here in New Zealand. These experiences have helped me immensely to build my professional knowledge and practice.”
When asked what it is that has kept her at the college for over ten years, Pearl shared, “He tangata, he tangata, he tangata! It is the people, the people, the people!”
