May Orio
Busy working mum, May Orio, is a proud NZTC graduate after completing a New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Advanced Care and Support) (Level 4).
Her dedication to study and success is evident, working full time as a nursing assistant throughout her studies as well as juggling family commitments.
“NZTC’s supportive learning environment and flexible study options allowed me to balance my work, family, study and other commitments,” she says.
Orio moved to New Zealand from the Philippines with her family for personal and professional growth opportunities. She said she was also drawn to the beautiful landscape and excellent healthcare system.
Her strong family values drew her to a career in healthcare, finding satisfaction knowing that she can improve someone’s quality of life whether through treatment, support or education.
“I constantly think of my family back home. My longingness and desire to care for them inspired me the most to continue my healthcare journey.”
With NZTC’s emphasis on ensuring students gain hands on experience, Orio says this made her feel well prepared for her career.
She says working in a dynamic and ever evolving field offers endless opportunities for learning and growth.
“The diverse working environment, I learn new things every day. I enjoy staying updated on new practices, technologies that enhance the care I provide.”
With a particular interest in the dementia care and paediatrics sector, Orio hopes to study towards a nursing degree one day.
“I am curious how to treat and support those with dementia led active lives. As I continue my journey I hope to contribute more deeply to this field.”
