Level 3 student turning zero fee study into rewarding new career

Health and Wellbeing

Dedicated to pursuing a career in the healthcare sector, Paramjeet Kaur has put her passion for people into practice, fitting in a part-time role as a Support Worker around a full-time job.

Keen to continue on a personal journey of growth and development, she has taken the next step towards her new career with a New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing – Health Assistance Strand (Level 3), taking advantage of NZTC’s zero fees offer and online learning options to do so.

“I wanted to study for a long time, but it’s hard for me to attend regular classes. NZTC’s online learning option has helped me to start studying again in a sector I am passionate about, and their zero fees offer has also helped me financially to start on this new and fulfilling career path.

“I can now study from anywhere, when I’m on a break at work or at the end of the day, and still gain a qualification that will provide lots of future opportunities.”

While support work is a new field for Kaur to explore, the payoff is huge. Every day she gains different insights into healthcare, and the combination of theory and practical work means she is able to implement key learnings into her practice immediately, improving the level of care she offers her clients.

“For example, there is a lot of vocabulary in healthcare and theory that I’m learning, and I can then use these terms easily to better understand a client’s condition.

“Being able to provide a high standard of care, and meet the physical and mental needs of a client, can directly change a life and has a huge impact on their family as well which is so rewarding to experience.”

Kaur’s goal is to make client-based healthcare her full-time role. Short-term, she is planning to pursue her Level 4 studies with the college, with her sights set on a nursing degree in the future.

“I’m grateful to NZTC for giving me this first opportunity to fulfill a dream and start me on my journey of growth.

“The healthcare sector has lots of development opportunities and new experiences which I am so excited to unlock.”
