International student shares advice for studying in New Zealand
Graduate Diploma in Teaching (ECE) student talks us through some of the ways she is making the most of her learning journey in Aotearoa.
Travelling:
“I enjoy visiting different cities in New Zealand. This gives me an opportunity to learn more about the country; especially its magnificent landscape and diverse, inclusive culture.”
Making connections:
“This has been an important part of my learning journey in New Zealand. I have made lifelong local and international friends here. Having supportive friends around me makes my life in New Zealand more interesting and less lonely.”
Attending local events:
“I love going out to local events and exploring different parts of my host city. Being familiar with and integrating myself into the local community creates a sense of belonging.”
Joining a club:
“I regularly attend an English club run by local students to practice my speaking skills. This has been very useful in improving my proficiency of the language, which enhances my comprehension of the course materials.”
Mentoring:
“I joined an international mentoring program. The fulfillment of being able to work closely with the international/pastoral care team and help new students adjust to their life in New Zealand further encouraged me to pursue a better experience and pass it down to people like me.”
Boosting academic performance:
“Being engaged with the students and teaching staff at NZTC has brought huge success to my academic performance. Taking the initiative to ask questions and contribute to the discussions provides different perspectives and helps me better understand the topics.”
