We catch up with Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood Education) student, Snigdha Jayesh Bhatia, as she settles into her new home in Christchurch, New Zealand.

Tell us how you ended up in Christchurch and studying with NZTC.

While I was looking to enrol in an early childhood education program, I was extremely happy to be introduced to NZTC at an event in Pune, India. I was drawn to NZTC’s 40 year plus history of empowering students in the field of education. I completed Level 5 and Level 6 while in India via NZTC Global, with the hope of continuing onshore in New Zealand. Fast forward COVID-19 border related closures and I’m now pursuing the Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood Education) onshore in Christchurch!

What inspired you to pursue a career in early childhood education?

Personally, I feel it’s a very rewarding career as you get to see children achieving different milestones. It’s a real opportunity to bring about a difference in young lives and inspire a love of learning. You get to learn so much about living life, having hope, embracing mistakes, trying new things and dreaming big from kids.

What are your thoughts on education and study in New Zealand?

Education in New Zealand is a student-centred pathway that provides continuous learning progression, research opportunities, a matchless quality of life, along with internationally accredited qualifications. Students can progress every year, with their learning at one level setting the foundation for the next steps.

Do you have any advice for others thinking about a career in early childhood?

There's a whole lot going on in those early years! From learning to walk and communicating thoughts, to solving complex problems and understanding social relationships. This is where the ECE teacher shines. They get to learn all about how children develop and how best to encourage their growth at every stage. A career in early childhood education offers endless opportunities to explore and keep learning. If you want a career that keeps you on your feet, active and youthful, then you’ve found it with early childhood education!

What’s next in your journey?

I am very excited to get a hands-on experience in education centres in New Zealand. I would love to explore the beautiful country, the culture, and learn and explore new ways to engage with children and form meaningful relationships with the people here. I also have plans to complete a Masters qualification.
