Healthcare graduate loves bringing joy and laughter to her new Support Worker role

Health and Wellbeing

Former dental professional, Quinn Lake, has always had a passion for healthcare, but it was caring for her own parents that prompted her to pursue a different career path.

“As both of my parents aged and their health changed, I was very much involved in helping with the different aspects of their care choices.

“I felt privileged being part of their team throughout the journey and through their challenges, working with other health professionals to make the transition from healthy independence, through to their passing.”

This personal experience prompted Lake to gain a Health and Wellbeing qualification, and she was drawn towards the college’s NZQA recognised programs and supportive staff.

“NZTC has an excellent record of providing quality Health and Wellbeing qualifications that are recognised by a wide variety of employers and workplaces.

“I found the programs thorough, set out clearly, and received great help and resources from tutors, making it achievable and stress free. Overall, I feel I have gained qualifications that will stand me in good stead as a future employee and team member.”

Shortly after completing Level 4, Lake was thrilled to be offered a position with HealthCare NZ as a Support Worker, putting her newly acquired knowledge and skills into practice.

“I’m really enjoying the position so far and feel very grateful to NZTC for providing a platform which is user friendly, supportive and professional, enabling students to achieve qualifications which not only benefit students and employers, but also communities.”

A highlight in her role is being able to work alongside and care for the senior age group, a group close to her own heart.

“My mum, Sherlie, had a wonderful positive outlook on life and ageing, and is an inspiration to me in my own life.

“I enjoy the senior age group especially, I just love their spirit, their outlook on life, their tenacity, and I enjoy being able to make a positive difference and hopefully bring joy and laughter to another soul.”
