Healthcare Assistant shares her wisdom

Health and Wellbeing

Experienced Healthcare Assistant Linda Brown has dedicated many years of her life to those most vulnerable.

Having worked in a number of different settings ranging from in-home to private hospital care, Linda is committed to developing her expertise and is passionate about providing her clients with the best care possible. She shares her top tips for excelling as a healthcare professional.

“Seizing opportunities to upskill is something that will always be beneficial to a Healthcare Assistant.

“The sector is constantly evolving, so gaining a formal qualification will ensure your skills and knowledge remain up-to-date. This can also improve your employability, as well as your eligibility for future pay rises.”

Never taking clients or their situations for granted is an important lesson Linda has learnt over the years. She encourages Healthcare Assistants to take something positive from every interaction.

“I have valued all of my experiences and been humbled by the strength and love of those I have cared for. I have learnt so much from them, and to this day I am still learning.

“My clients come from different backgrounds and they each teach me in their own ways about life in general, which is just so special.”

Linda also highlights the significance of good communication.

“Healthcare Assistants should listen to clients so they feel heard, and to show that their concerns, experiences and opinions are valued.

“Healthcare is also extremely collaborative, so effort should always be made to communicate effectively with team members to ensure everyone is on the same page with a clear understanding of their responsibilities.”

Ultimately, Linda’s biggest piece of advice is to never forget your passion for client care and to always look at the positives.

“While there will be challenging times, remember why you chose this profession. I cherish helping people and the only reward I want is to bring happiness to others. There is nothing better than seeing the stress leave someone’s face when you have helped solve a problem or made something better for them.

“The hugs I receive from clients are worth a thousand words to me.”
