Health and Wellbeing student embracing a new challenge

Health and Wellbeing

After losing his job in the travel industry in early 2020, Davey Xin was inspired to kickstart a new career path in a sector with high demand.

“I was originally working in the airline industry, but Covid-19 challenges resulted in the loss of my job. While it was sad to leave, this encouraged me to embark on a different career path and embrace a new challenge.

“New Zealand has an ageing population, with many people requiring additional support in their day-to-day living. Healthcare is an ideal industry to enter into - especially during these unprecedented times – as there is a strong demand for healthcare workers. Gaining a formal qualification from NZTC will put me in a good position for employment.”

With his New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing – Health Assistance Strand (Level 3) studies now well underway, Davey has felt fully supported by New Zealand Tertiary College (NZTC) from the get-go.

“When you begin your educational journey, IT Help will lead you through the process of logging in to NZTC Online, accessing your messages and learning content, and staying connected with fellow classmates and lecturers through efficient communication channels. Staff are warm and friendly, and help is just a quick phone call or email away if you get stuck.”

Davey is loving both the convenience and benefits of online study.

“Studying online provides me with the flexibility to be in charge of my own schedule. As long as an internet connection is available, I can study at any time of the day and from any location, saving myself both time and money.

“A range of easily accessible and comprehensive readings are available through the NZTC Online learning platform to support me in my studies, and I have noticed my computer skills have improved.

“My confidence has really grown in navigating an online environment which is very encouraging.”
