Several Associate Teacher professional development workshops about He Taonga have taken place over past weeks with our Associate Teachers eager to embrace the opportunities that He Taonga presents for their teaching practice within early childhood centres.

Recent feedback included:

Great! This is very exciting. Such a wonderful resource with very useful ideas and sentence structure to enrich our knowledge of te reo.

The resource is AMAZING!! It’s a great start and as a teacher I can’t wait to dig in and see how I can incorporate te reo Māori a lot more in my practice.

So grateful to you for such a great resource! Now I will be able to construct simple sentences.

I will use this book all the time as I continue my teaching journey. I cannot wait to share it with my colleagues and children. Thank you.

Such a relevant resource which is clearly the only one of its kind. This will overcome so many barriers for student/tutors alike. Thank you.

What an awesome session on te reo Māori. The resource is very simple, real and also powerful for anyone to use in ECE. I am blessed to be here and to learn something new and meaningful about te reo. Tumeke!

You can’t teach what you don’t know. The book is beautiful and is a wealth of te reo Māori. It is wonderful to have all that language in one place in one resource. I can’t wait to use it.

Wow what a fantastic workshop and what a fantastic resource. This session has been a massive eye opener for someone who has wanted to learn full te reo for a long time and to use it in the centre.

This resource and workshop encouraged me to be more authentic in using te reo in practice and use te reo in full sentences rather than using as commands.

Our students have also expressed their delight at receiving He Taonga.

Ngiculela Andrews with He Taonga

Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood Education) student Ngiculela Andrews said, "This resource is primo. It's pretty basic and that's what we need. I find there is more waiata, more words and it also encourages us to use phrases as well."

Copies of He Taonga will continue to be distributed throughout the year and they are also available for purchase by emailing books@nztertiarycollege.ac.nz or visiting our NZTC Books webpage at www.nztertiarycollege.ac.nz/about-us/nztc-books
