Growth through resilience explored in new He Kupu issue
New Zealand Tertiary College (NZTC) is excited to welcome the 27th issue of He Kupu!
An online peer reviewed ECE journal published by NZTC, He Kupu aims to develop an inclusive, critical, collaborative and informed community of early childhood professionals.
Featuring prominent sector voices, the May issue explores resilience with a particular focus on the impact of Covid-19 restrictions over the past year. Apparent in these narratives is the capacity of individuals and organisations to overcome challenges that, at times, may seem insurmountable, often discovering new opportunities in their wake.
Bachelor of Teaching (ECE) graduate Rebecca Gussenhoven and Program Leader Fiona Woodgate collaborate to reflect on their own story of resilience during the lockdown. Despite challenges and disruptions caused by the pandemic, Rebecca’s centre was able to continue providing valuable support to tamariki and whānau through new and innovative practices.
Trish Thomas challenges teachers to reflect on their individual and wider social relationships, and how these are developed through their daily practice. Trish highlights the importance of working closely with whānau; welcoming, supporting and embracing them into centre life, as a way to foster resilient children through community connectedness.
NZTC Academic Dean Sean Dolan is thrilled to support early childhood professionals with such a timely area of research.
“The articles in this issue provide theoretical and practical support for early childhood teachers to gain a more in-depth understanding of the significance and implications for developing resilience with children, whānau and teaching staff. I hope that they encourage reflection and inspire thinking into how resilience can be nurtured within the ECE setting.”
NZTC Chief Executive Selena Fox reflects on the significance of the latest issue with its focus of resilience.
“As we launch this issue, we continue to live in a time of global pandemic. We keep close to our hearts our past and present NZTC India team members, students and graduates; especially those residing in India who face a devastating daily reality.
“We honour them and their loved ones around the world with this special edition that offers a shining light of hope, support and fresh learning in our love, care and education of young children.”
