Graduate Diploma in Teaching (ECE) student embraces professional development opportunity

Early Childhood Education

The Early Childhood Council (ECC) National Conference is set to take place on July 21st – 22nd, and NZTC has partnered with the ECC to gift two students full registration to the event.

Graduate Diploma in Teaching (ECE) student, Karunya Ravikumar, is thrilled to have been awarded a scholarship from the ECC to attend this year’s conference, themed ‘Striving for Excellence’.

“I am thankful to NZTC and the ECC for providing me with this excellent opportunity to support my professional development. Being my first ECC conference, I am so excited to be able to attend this in my hometown of Wellington.”

Ravikumar transitioned from her Biotechnology background to pursue a career in early childhood education, and hasn’t looked back since.

“I realised that teaching is not just a career but a calling. It is so rewarding, where I can make a difference in the lives of others and my own by constantly learning and teaching.

“I believe that the early years in a child’s life are crucial and lay the foundation for lifelong learning and development, which significantly influences their physical, cognitive, emotional, and social growth.”

She is keen to learn as much as she can from the conference to support her in her teaching practice.

“As a student teacher, I am looking forward to gaining knowledge and insights from other professionals, and educators who share the same passion for teaching, and also explore different educational resources and workshops.

“I am hoping to take away a kete of knowledge and resources to share with my team, and together enhance our teaching and promote positive learning outcomes for young children.”
