New Zealand Tertiary College (NZTC) staff recently had the privilege of attending a private screening of the Global Leadership Summit; a professional development event hosted in partnership with the Global Leadership Network NZ, which sees hundreds of thousands of leaders tune in from around the world.

Supporting the development of leadership skills for college staff, viewers were treated to motivational talks by the likes of Kaká - a Brazilian retired soccer phenomenon, Marcus Buckingham - a best-selling author and global researcher, and more.

Craig Groeschel - founder and senior pastor of Life.Church, set an inspirational tone for the day as he shared, “Everyone wins when the leader gets better.”

Craig went on to explore the significance of ‘leading through the dip’ - a relevant concept for these Covid-19 times. Reiterating that “every major crisis creates unprecedented opportunities” and “sometimes things may become worse before they become good,” Craig outlined key strategies on how to lead effectively with positive influence during difficult times.

Best-selling author, Vanessa Van Edwards, shared valuable insights on the importance of engaging in positive communication, as she asked viewers to “Think about how you want someone to feel before, during and after interacting with you.”

Following each presentation, staff gathered in small groups to reflect on the content shared and identify useful key learnings that could be implemented into their daily lives, both personally and professionally.

“The Global Leadership Summit has been an annual NZTC tradition for many years, available to our wider team to choose to engage in to grow, reflect and develop leadership skills,” said NZTC Chief Executive Selena Fox.

“This year’s event highlighted the core qualities associated with great leadership, including a focus on positive communication and leadership based on love. These words resonate with our treasured NZTC values, as we reflect and draw on Heart in our daily practice, supporting and caring for one another at every step of our leadership journeys.”
