Following a lifelong love of learning

Mother of five and grandmother of one Katrina Fowler says it is never too late to follow your dreams.

The 46 year old has been interested in education, teaching and learning for as long as she can remember which has led her to specialise in early childhood education.

Her dedication for learning hasn’t gone unnoticed. She recently received an NZTC Special Commendation award for her Postgraduate Diploma in Education (Early Childhood Education) studies.

Ms Fowler is continuing her lifelong love of learning and she is currently studying towards a Master of Early Childhood Education at the College.

“I am really proud of the results that I have achieved and it feels amazing to have my hard work and dedication recognised by NZTC.”

Ms Fowler completed her diploma while teaching full-time in a kindergarten.

“The online mode of learning has allowed me the flexibility to fit ongoing study around my other commitments and I really liked that I had the opportunity to share my journey with a diverse range of people from all over the world.

“I chose New Zealand Tertiary College because they are specialists in early childhood education. It has been an amazing place to study as all members of the organisation are as passionate as I am about ongoing learning, sharing their knowledge and assisting others to reach their goals.”

She says she owes much of her success to her family.

“I could not have achieved all that I have without the love and support of my family and colleagues who have been behind me all the way.

“I like to think that I have shown them that learning is a lifelong process and that you are never too old to learn more about the things you are passionate about. I hope that they follow their dreams, just like I have.”

The Postgraduate Diploma in Education (Early Childhood Education) can be completed on either a full-time or part-time basis giving graduates an opportunity to enhance their curriculum knowledge and gain leadership skills. The degree pathways into our Masters’ qualifications.
