Early childhood practitioners, researchers, and student teachers have four weeks to submit their expertise to academic journal He Kupu (The Word) before submissions close on Monday 19 August.
Published twice a year by New Zealand Tertiary College, the journal provides a professional development opportunity for those working in the ECE sector, and the chance to share knowledge and research with more than 11,000 subscribers worldwide.
The next issue will be released in October 2024, and focuses on the theme of ‘readiness to teach’.
He Kupu editor and NZTC Academic Dean, Dr Sean Dolan, hopes to see a number of submissions from students reflecting on the development of their practice and preparing for a full-time teaching career.
“From the role that coaching and mentoring plays in the workplace and the early participation of student teachers in a centre, to developing relationships with learners and their families in the centres and reflective practice, the theme considers all aspects of their teaching journey to date,” he says.
Case studies, essays and book reviews are also welcome from early childhood teachers and academics throughout New Zealand who have relevant expertise.
“If you have research findings or a paper that shows a clear connection to the theme, we encourage you to submit it for publication and share your knowledge with the sector,” says Dolan.
“He Kupu is widely read by students and practitioners teaching at centres. Not only is the journal a channel for professional development, but a chance to contribute to the future of early childhood education and impact children's learning and development.”
