Filipino student says NZTC’s learning opportunities create effective teachers
After a successful career in hospitality that saw Filipino student Ruby Comboz work for hotel chains around the world, it was her young daughter Karina that inspired her to consider studying early childhood.
“She gave me a new perspective on how to view the world through the eyes of a child – full of wonder, curiosity and admiration.
“The sense of fulfilment that resulted from being her mum inspired me to seek a career that aims to positively impact and make a significant difference in the lives of children who represent the future of our nation.”
Having lived in New Zealand for over three years now, Ruby reflects on why she chose to enrol with NZTC.
“Many of Karina’s ECE teachers are graduates of NZTC. They spoke highly of the college and expressed enthusiasm towards the Graduate Diploma in Teaching (ECE).
“A critical factor in my decision to enrol in this program was the flexible workplace learning. As a full-time working mum, I can manage my time more effectively.
“Since we reside in New Zealand’s South Island, moving was not an option. However, NZTC’s progressive study modes have allowed me to gain a quality education largely from the comfort of home.”
Ruby says she couldn’t imagine pursuing an ECE career anywhere else.
“Through my NZTC studies, I can engage in Field Practice opportunities which are so valuable, as it is experience that creates an effective teacher.
“I delight in the simplicity of the New Zealand environment; the feeling of calm and peace that one can find. It’s incredibly comforting to live in a place that is relatively free of excessive or unnecessary stress such as traffic, lack of safety or pollution.”
