ECE Centre Director impressed with NZTC graduates
A Centre Director of 25 years, Philippa Terei is impressed with the quality of New Zealand Tertiary College (NZTC)’s graduates and student teachers – many of whom are employed at her centre in Milford, Auckland.
“I have the privilege of working alongside NZTC graduates in my centre, and have observed the quality of their knowledge and their practical implementation of this in practice. It is wonderful to see they have a good understanding of theory and current trends in education, gained through NZTC’s programs which offer a strong ECE foundation.
“I also find it extremely rewarding having the opportunity to mentor and support the development of our student teachers for the Field Practice component of their studies, especially when they end up becoming staff members with us upon graduation.”
When hiring teaching staff in her centre, Philippa looks for dedicated individuals who demonstrate a true passion for working with young children.
“Displaying a friendly, welcoming and caring personality is important; along with an ability to embrace flexibility and work well with others. It is important that those who join our team also hold the same values and philosophy as our centre.”
For aspiring educators working towards a career in ECE, Philippa says there are many positive employment opportunities available.
“At present, there are a number of vacancies throughout New Zealand for qualified teachers. I know of NZTC graduates who have all had multiple job offers, which has allowed them to select a centre that best suits their teaching philosophy and preferred working conditions.”
