Chinese student inspired by NZTC learning journey
When Chinese student, Mengying Qiu, was asked why she recommends NZTC to other international students, she shared how the college encourages students to be learners with learning initiative and independent thinking.
“A variety of learning materials and information can be found on NZTC Online, as well as interactive discussion forums between lecturers and classmates, without the restriction of time and place. Unlike the spoon-fed teaching approach, the more questions we come up with as a student, the better learning outcome we can achieve.”
The carefree minds of children, as well as an earlier English teacher journey, inspired Mengying to pursue a career in early childhood education.
“My favourite part about working in ECE is contributing to the curriculum planning and setting up a variety of teaching and learning activities customised for children’s holistic learning and development by taking their interest, learning dispositions and other factors into consideration.”
As a Graduate Diploma in Teaching (ECE) student, Mengying has been inspired by the study she has undertaken to date, applying the newfound knowledge to her work in an early childhood centre.
“I have learnt how to effectively communicate with my team and how to support children’s learning from holistic perspectives with flexible and receptive teaching strategies in a professional manner.”
A sense of freedom, peace and tranquility has been enjoyed by Mengying since moving to New Zealand.
“I admire the beautiful natural landscape and relaxing lifestyle in New Zealand, where people tend to be more unbiased towards different values and life.”
