Celebrating our values
In long-standing college tradition, NZTC dedicates the month of August to shining a light on its treasured values of Vision, Heart, Competence and Spirit.
Values Month offers an opportunity to share how these values are alive within our college community, guiding us in our teaching, care, support and learning endeavours. These values serve as the foundation for the college's mission statement, and students are encouraged to incorporate them into their daily practice.
Our Health and Wellbeing community share their reflections on the NZTC value that resonates with them the most and how they witness its influence in their work and study.
NZTC Vision – Te Mata
“I have chosen Vision as my favourite NZTC value. The concept of Vision holds unique significance for each individual, with varying interpretations. However, I strongly believe in the importance of having a personal Vision. During my studies, I have developed a clear Vision for myself. I feel it is crucial to not only establish this but also diligently work towards its realisation. It entails dedicating oneself to the pursuit of making it a reality. For me, my Vision is pursuing further studies and aspiring to work as a social worker within a healthcare setting.”

NZTC Heart – Ngākau
“For me, it's all about Heart. I believe that having a compassionate Heart is the most essential quality when engaging with others. It’s about recognising that each individual carries their own set of beliefs, values and life experiences that have shaped them into the person they are today. By sharing our own experiences and embracing the diversity of others, we can constantly learn and grow. It is crucial to acknowledge that everyone, regardless of their background, craves love, affection and appreciation for simply being themselves.”

NZTC Heart – Ngākau
“My favourite value is Heart. I firmly believe that kindness, patience and love are crucial qualities for being a competent Healthcare Assistant. Many of our clients are vulnerable residents who require support both emotionally and physically. As Healthcare Assistants, it is our responsibility to provide dedicated care and be a constant source of companionship for our clients.”
