August a time of cherished tradition for NZTC
For 18 years now, New Zealand Tertiary College (NZTC) has dedicated the month of August to shining a light on our treasured values of Vision, Heart, Competence and Spirit.
Values Month offers an opportunity to look at how these values are living amongst us, and we carry them in our hearts as they guide us in the way we teach, care, support and learn. Our values underpin the college’s mission statement and students too, are encouraged to draw from them in daily practice.
2021 has so far been another incredible year, so personal health and wellbeing was a timely focus through a month of winter bugs and rain, lockdowns and busy college days. Physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health was reflected on each week in turn.
Throughout August, NZTC staff also engaged in opportunities to reflect on the significance of each value, and team member Spirit shone brightly as they were prompted to share their thoughts on colleagues who had touched them through Vision, Heart, Competence and Spirit – nominating individuals and sharing stories and experiences to honour them.
“Once again, August at NZTC gives us the opportunity to look at how our cherished values are woven through the tasks, responsibilities and opportunities that present themselves each day in our ongoing support and commitment to students. The month is always a highlight for me and this year our focus on health and wellbeing has been timely and valuable for us all,” said NZTC Chief Executive Selena Fox.
