Auckland ranked among 5 best cities globally for work-life balance
The latest Forbes Advisor’s Worldwide Work-Life Balance index has placed Auckland
fifth in the world for work-life balance.
The index ranks major cities based on a number of factors including happiness, gender equality, employment opportunities and average working hours.
The only non-European city ranked in the top 5, Auckland received its high score due to “a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, making it a comfortable and enjoyable place to live and work. It is home to a growing and diverse economy, providing ample employment opportunities across a range of sectors,” said the report.
Contributing to a high ranking, full time employees are entitled to four weeks’ paid leave and 11 public holidays per year, with unemployment significantly lower than other cities within the index, at 3.2%.
For Graduate Diploma in Teaching (ECE) graduate, Bhumi Haria, finding employment in an Auckland early childhood centre was straightforward thanks to plentiful employment opportunities available, coupled with her NZTC qualification.
The graduate, originally from India, is enjoying living in Auckland and being surrounded by nature – a passion she loves to share with the tamariki in her centre.
“New Zealand is very inclusive of other cultures and we are so privileged to have such a beautiful natural environment, filled with flowers, plants and insects. We love gardening with the children and teaching them about Papatūānuku (Mother Earth), as well as learning about living creatures and the food that comes from the land.”
