Auckland one of the world’s most liveable cities
Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland) is the tenth ‘most liveable’ city in the world according to the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) 2023 Global Liveability Index.
The annual index ranks cities on stability, healthcare, education, infrastructure, culture and environment, giving each city a rating out of 100.
Auckland scored a high 95 points for stability, 95.8 for healthcare and 100 for education. It also ranked 97.9 for culture and environment, the highest score of all the top 10 cities.
Graduate Diploma in Teaching (ECE) student, Songtao Wan from China, feels the latest ranking is a testament to Auckland’s qualities, and says he particularly enjoys the city’s cultural offerings.
“Auckland is a very charming and diversified metropolitan. The downtown CBD areas are bustling like any other large city, with both local and international cultural heritages, including a good list of museums, galleries and concert halls.
“The fine dining options are nothing to be ashamed of even for a food and wine connoisseur, and the neighbourhoods are lovely with their own features, including parks and playgrounds.”
For Indian Bachelor of Teaching (ECE) student, Avleen Kaur, it is the city’s safety and easy access to nature that make it a top place to live.
“I am new to the country and I mostly travel by public transport, even at night sometimes, but I feel very safe and the people are friendly and helpful.
“One of the best things about Auckland is that people here have a perfect work-life balance, and I love being able to explore the numerous scenic spots around the city in my free time.”
She encourages other international students thinking of making the move to the City of Sails.
“I want to say that you should go for it! It’s a very beautiful city, with beautiful people. Auckland is a charmer, so you’ll soon feel at home here and there are many places to explore if you like to travel.”
