After graduating Level 3 and part way through Level 4 studies, Sajesh Kolliyil is thrilled to start work as a Specialist Support Worker.

Name: Sajesh Kolliyil

Qualification: New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing – Health Assistance Strand (Level 3)

For a first-time student and a busy dad, it was important for Sajesh Kolliyil to find a tertiary provider that offered support and flexibility.

“NZTC is an esteemed institution with 40 years of excellence and experience in New Zealand and the college’s flexible workplace learning with supportive lecturers, Pastoral Support and IT Help are all an added advantage.

“I am a busy father of two kids and I am also working full-time so the mode of study is really great for me.”

With some prior experience working as a Healthcare Assistant caring for stroke victims, Kolliyil was keen to gain more advanced skills to better care for clients with complex needs.

After deciding to enrol in a Health and Wellbeing program to progress his career opportunities, he says his study journey so far has exceeded his expectations.

“It has been the first and best method of tertiary study that I have experienced in my life. I’m very proud to have achieved an NZQA accredited qualification from NZTC.”

Only part way through the New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Advanced Support) (Level 4) program and he has already landed a role as a Specialist Support Worker for Community Living.

He says his studies have given him the necessary knowledge and confidence needed to succeed in his new role, caring for clients with chronic disabilities.

“My professional development has been enhanced 100% throughout my studies with the college.

“With the support of the lecturers and Pastoral Support, I was really motivated to do my best and learn as much as I can about how to improve the quality of care for my clients.”

Reflecting on his chosen career path, Kolliyil is excited for his new role and putting into action all that he has learned.

“I think working in healthcare is one of the best and most noble professions because you can help people who are in need.
