Name: Rintu George Easow
Qualification: New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing – Health Assistance Strand (Level 3)
Watching his wife care for the vulnerable as a registered nurse encouraged Rintu George Easow to put down his tools and begin a new career in healthcare.
The ex-maintenance engineer began thinking about a career change when he first moved to New Zealand from India, and made the decision to move into healthcare as a way to give back to his community.
“I also love meeting new people and being able to lend a helping hand in any way possible,” Rintu says.
“I was helping older people through social service work in India, so being with them and assisting them with daily life is a passion of mine.”
Choosing the New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing – Health Assistance Strand (Level 3) program at New Zealand Tertiary College was an easy decision, especially after Rintu discovered the program is approved by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA).
“When I started the course, I gained access to flexible study options, supportive tutors, easily accessible and comprehensive study materials, and the opportunity to engage with other students to share ideas and knowledge. The live chats and discussion forums really helped me to improve my knowledge.”
Now a graduate, Rintu is ready to start further study to help him on his new journey. We asked him some questions about his future plans and what his experience with the college has been like:
How has studying through NZTC Online been for you?
Online study with NZTC has been a wonderful journey for me. I am very impressed with the study materials, interactive sessions, and mentor support. The journal reflections and assignments helped me to gain a deep understanding of healthcare. To get the most out of their study I encourage other students to be active participants in discussion forums and complete journal reflections of each section.
What does a day in your job look like?
I’m currently working as a Healthcare Assistant with Griffin Healthcare. I start my day with a prayer then, after reaching the hospital where I work, I am responsible for carrying out my clients’ care plans. This includes feeding, grooming, and supporting them to participate in various activities for a speedy recovery.
Do you have an interest in a particular area of healthcare?
I am interested in working in any department, but mental health has a special place in my heart. I am keen to work with people in the future who face challenges with mental health.
