Konica Bahri is thriving in her role as a Trainee Phlebotomist following her Level 3 studies with the college.

Name: Konica Bahri

Qualification: New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing – Health Assistance Strand (Level 3)

Working in the healthcare sector has always been of interest to Konica Bahri, who left a role as a laboratory technician in India when she immigrated to New Zealand with her family.

After several years’ work in hospitality, she made the decision to return to her roots with a New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing – Health Assistance Strand (Level 3).

“Healthcare has always been my passion. I have friends in the sector, and watching them make a difference in people’s lives inspired me to start studying towards a medical career again.”

As a busy mother with an 8-year-old son, NZTC’s online learning option suited her daily routine and gave her much needed flexibility.

“The NZTC Online platform was easy to access and manageable in every way, and made it easy for me to balance my work, study and family commitments.

“I was also able to see everything on my phone as well, which was helpful for the times I didn’t have access to my computer but needed to look something up, or contact a lecturer.”

After missing her rewarding work in healthcare for the past nine years, KOnica started a role as a Trainee Phlebotomist with Awanui Labs two weeks after completing her Level 3 studies.

She enjoys the social aspect of the role, which involves working with patients of various ages to collect samples.

Her favourite course, HW301 – ‘The Ethical and Professional Healthcare Assistant’, has helped her to approach her new role with respect and consideration for all her clients.

“I just love what I’m doing every day. It’s a very different level of proud to be achieving my goals while balancing other commitments too.”
