Embarking on a career in healthcare requires passion, dedication, and a commitment to helping others. Level 4 graduate, Kirsty Wilkin, embodies these qualities and has set her sights on making a difference in the lives of the vulnerable.

Through her journey with NZTC, Wilkin has gained invaluable knowledge and skills that have propelled her towards her ultimate goal of becoming a nurse.

“After landing a job as a kitchenhand for Radius Care, my passion for working with the vulnerable, elderly and clients with disabilities blossomed.

“I was offered a job as a Healthcare Assistant working night shifts. This experience, along with my Level 4 qualification will take me to my next chapter in life, nursing.”

When it came to furthering her education, Wilkin says NZTC offered the flexibility she needed as a mother of two young children, and provided the support necessary to excel in her studies.

“As a mum of two under 5s, working full time, and trying to further my own career, NZTC was a great choice for my education needs.

“Studying online suited my situation, enabling me to study where and when I had the time. I found Pastoral Support hugely helpful, and the lecturers were very knowledgeable in the program material and always on hand to offer support and advice when needed.”

Reflecting on her Level 4 journey, Wilkin highlights the ‘Safe Medication Administration’ course as being particularly beneficial in her current role as a Medical Centre Assistant.

“I thoroughly enjoyed learning all about the various medications for different complex healthcare needs, what is available and what alternatives we can use when caring for clients.”

Looking ahead, she has already taken steps to further her education by enrolling in a nursing program, reinforcing her commitment to a lifelong career in healthcare.

Her advice to individuals considering upskilling in healthcare is simple yet powerful: follow your heart and embrace the opportunities that come your way.

“It’s so rewarding, fulfilling, enjoyable and worth it! You won’t regret completing further study with NZTC. They will guide you, support you and prepare you for the workforce.”
