Karima Aiyub
Karima Aiyub has seen her clients become more confident in her care since she graduated from NZTC.
Name: Karima Aiyub
Qualification: New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Advanced Support) (Level 4)
A support worker for more than eleven years, Level 4 graduate Karima Aiyub sees her role caring for the elderly as a privilege rather than a right.
“I’ve always wanted to support vulnerable people and help them achieve their goals. Most of my clients have little to no family support, so I feel privileged to become a part of their life,” said Karima.
“The most rewarding part of my role is seeing the smiles on their faces when they see me.”
Having never studied online before, the support worker was initially hesitant about studying with NZTC but quickly gained confidence due to the college’s extensive support network.
“The tutors and support team from NZTC have been a great help throughout the course. I wouldn’t have achieved my Level 4 without their support,” she said.
“I chose to study so I could enhance my skills and experience in the sector. But this course didn’t just increase my knowledge, it also made me more confident when handling my clients’ personal services.”
Now a proud graduate and winner of the college’s Academic Excellence Award, Karima says the most rewarding part of her learning journey has been seeing her clients’ trust in her care grow.
“It’s an accomplishment I never expected to achieve. I’m thrilled to be recognised as an effective caregiver and see my clients become more confident under my service,” she shared.
“Studying with NZTC has given me a unique strength and insight in not only looking after my clients but myself as well. Having this knowledge is a great benefit for my family in the long term.”
