Healthcare assistant, Jolene Terure, says a particular life experience eventually led to her decision to complete a New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing – Health Assistance Strand (Level 3) qualification with New Zealand Tertiary College (NZTC).

Jolene says she first developed her passion for caring when her father was diagnosed with dementia and she began providing respite care for him.

“Learning more about the illness and how to provide proper support for my father was invaluable and uplifting for both of us. This inspired me to choose a career in the health and wellbeing industry so I could work with real people, and share in their journeys.

“It is a privilege to have the opportunity to support clients and help improve their quality of life, in a direct way and on a daily basis.”

Jolene says the support she received from NZTC was excellent, and is encouraging of anyone else who may be looking to further their education.

“The course materials are informative and easy to understand, and the combination of reading material, videos, articles, and quizzes helps to create enjoyable and effective learning. NZTC values high achievement and relevant learning opportunities, and these are supported by highly effective processes, including NZTC’s excellent online learning and academic and pastoral support.”

According to Jolene, studying with NZTC has had a positive impact on her work.

“Completing this qualification has increased my confidence and awareness in my work. What I have learnt is relevant and important in the healthcare industry. The course content relates to my work on a practical level, and I consistently implement what I am learning into my daily care routines.

“My plans for the future include continuing to study and learn so that I can always support my clients in the best way possible.”
