Health and Wellbeing graduate is thrilled to begin helping others in a sector close to her heart.

Name: Deepshikha

Qualification: New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing – Health Assistance Strand (Level 3)

Originally working in the hospitality industry, Deepshikha was inspired to study towards a Health and Wellbeing qualification after her own healthcare experience with the birth of her son.

“I hadn’t considered working in the health sector but that all changed when I had a complicated C-section. Healthcare Assistants blew my mind with how attentively they showed care and compassion. After getting discharged from the hospital, I googled to find their job description and how to get started. From then on, I knew I wanted to work in this field.

“I strongly believe that getting involved with a cause which is close to your heart is hugely beneficial for both the cause and your own sense of wellbeing.”

After successfully completing her Level 2 studies, which she found to be an “illuminating experience”, Deepshikha was motivated to further upskill and pursue a Level 3 qualification.

“The study materials were very enlightening, especially learning about cultural awareness and effective communication which can be used to maintain rapport with clients and their families.

“Previously, I had the mind-set that a Healthcare Assistant simply works for clients but my studies have changed my viewpoint, allowing me to realise that they work alongside them.”

After completing her Level 3 studies, Deepshikha is keen to work as a Healthcare Assistant to provide clients with a comfortable and stress-free experience like the one she had.

“I always wanted to help people and I hold a personal belief that helping others will enhance my overall sense of purpose and identity, but didn't know how to do that until taking the first step with NZTC.”

Throughout her study journey she feels the level of support has been above and beyond.

“There was always someone on hand to help if needed. I contacted my lecturers, IT, Pastoral Support and they always responded very quickly. As a result, I never felt as though I was studying alone at home, I felt like I was in a classroom with a strong support network around me.”
