Chanelle Inch-Reed
Equipped with new skills and knowledge, Chanelle Inch-Reed can’t wait to take on a career in healthcare!
Name: Chanelle Inch-Reed
Qualification: New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Level 2)
While supporting her sister through a terminal cancer diagnosis five years ago, Chanelle Inch-Reed was inspired by the level of care and support shown by the healthcare team.
“During this difficult time, my sister’s carers really reassured me. Seeing the way they looked after her was heartwarming. They were there every step of the way to make her journey as comfortable as possible.
“I got to see how truly important healthcare professionals are, and how much of a difference they make to the lives of their clients and their clients’ loved ones. I found it to be a very brave and rewarding profession. This experience definitely motivated me to pursue a Health and Wellbeing pathway.”
Now a recent graduate of the New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Level 2) with New Zealand Tertiary College (NZTC), Chanelle has taken the first step towards a rewarding career – all while maintaining a healthy work-life balance.
“NZTC gives students the ability to study online, as well as effectively communicate with lecturers and other support systems. This was very useful to me as I could study anytime and anywhere, allowing me to create my own routine to fit in with work and other responsibilities.”
Chanelle found that the course exploring culturally sensitive and safe care particularly resonated with her, as she looks to gain a volunteer position as a Healthcare Assistant in the near future.
“It was valuable for me to gain a comprehensive understanding of cultural awareness in healthcare, as the town I am currently living in (and where I hope to begin my career) has a variety of cultural elements and many individuals with strong cultural values and beliefs.”
Continuing to develop her skills and knowledge through NZTC’s Level 3 and 4 programs is a top priority for Chanelle.
“The healthcare sector is constantly changing and expanding. There is always room for improvement, and it is very important to me to keep enhancing my expertise so that I will be able to give my clients the quality care and support they deserve.
“My study journey with NZTC has definitely helped me to feel more confident within myself, as I know I will be able to give back positively to the community.”
