Name: Ajimon Mathew

Qualification: New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Advanced Care and Support) (Level 4)

For Level 4 graduate, Ajimon Mathew, the healthcare sector represents a field of compassion and care. He expresses his love for working in an environment that allows him to explore and enhance his skills to help those in need.

Working as a Support Worker for Nurse Maude in Wellington, Mathew shares how the variety of each day makes working in the sector an excellent choice.

“Each day unfolds with a unique set of opportunities as I provide support to individuals with diverse needs. Beginning my work in the morning, I assist clients in preparing for their day, attending to their personal care needs, and ensuring they receive nourishing meals.

“Engaging in meaningful conversations, a task I particularly enjoy, adds a personal touch to the care I provide. Before concluding my time with them, I take measures to guarantee their safety and leave them in a state of comfort for the remainder of the day.”

Mathew chose NZTC for its NZQA approval and flexible learning modes, allowing students to balance studies with full-time work.

“Studying via NZTC Online has proven to be an invaluable opportunity, especially for people with busy schedules like myself.

“The lecturers were so helpful, complemented by comprehensive notes, and the interactive discussion forums played a pivotal role in enhancing my understanding and ensuring the successful completion of my studies.”

He highlights his favourite course, Person-Centred Care Practices, which delves into the intricacies of personalised care. He emphasises the importance of understanding clients’ preferences, enabling him to provide care that makes them feel respected and valued.

Looking forward to applying the knowledge gained from his studies to make a difference in others’ lives, he encourages those considering studying with NZTC to give it a go.

“Through my role, I can change people’s lives by supporting them and helping them to reach their goals. Don’t think twice about upskilling with NZTC, just go ahead!”
