Uma Joys takes her career to the next level with a postgraduate certificate.

Name: Uma Joys

Qualification: Postgraduate Certificate in Education (Leadership and Management)

Uma Joys completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (Leadership & Management) as she was eager to pursue a career in early childhood education after consistently finding fulfilment in working with children.

Migrating from India in 1998, Uma moved to New Zealand where she developed a deep appreciation for the country’s culture and lifestyle.

“This love for New Zealand has inspired me to make it my permanent home,” she said.

Uma’s love for working with children started when she was at university where she had the opportunity to support children through play and academic support. Since then, her passion for nurturing and educating young minds has consistently guided her professional choices.

Uma chose to complete her studies at NZTC because of the convenience to be able to study and balance her work and life commitments.

“I chose to study with New Zealand Tertiary College because of its flexible study options and the exceptional support offered by the lecturers, which aligns well with my course content needs.”

Although Uma currently works in a managerial role, she was eager to upskill.

“Pursuing this course allowed me to refresh my knowledge and deepen my expertise in the field.”

With a devoted interest in policy development and advocacy for vulnerable and underprivileged children, Uma is dedicated to making a real difference to the lives of tamariki.

“I believe that creating supportive policies and raising awareness about the challenges these children face is crucial for ensuring they receive the resources and opportunities they need to thrive. This area allows me to make a meaningful impact by helping shape the framework within which early childhood education operates, ultimately benefiting those who are often underserved and in need of additional support.”

Uma draws her inspiration from her daughter and mentors who have engaged her passions for working with children and encouraged her to pursue a meaningful career.
