Peter Li
Name: Peter Li
Qualification: Graduate Diploma in Teaching (Early Childhood Education)
Previous roles at universities in China and America gave Peter Li experience in teaching. However, it was early childhood education that captured his interest, combining his work history with a desire to make a positive impact on children’s lives.
Driven by an interest in inclusive education, Peter chose to study a Graduate Diploma in Teaching (Early Childhood Education) at New Zealand Tertiary College to develop his practice and create meaningful learning experiences for every child.
“I have a strong interest in supporting children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The college’s emphasis on inclusive pedagogy and practical, hands-on learning experiences aligns well with my own educational philosophy and career goals,” he explains.
“Additionally, the flexible learning options and supportive environment offered by the college made it an ideal choice for advancing my career in early childhood education.”
We asked Peter some questions about his experience at NZTC and future plans:
What has been your favourite course in the Graduate Diploma?
My favourite course was ‘Inclusive Early Childhood Education’, which focused on strategies for supporting children with diverse needs. The course emphasised the significance of observation and collaboration with families and specialists to effectively identify and address each child’s unique requirements, which has been incredibly valuable in my practice. One piece of knowledge that has stuck with me is the importance of creating an inclusive environment where all children feel valued and supported.
How has studying through NZTC Online been for you?
Studying through NZTC Online has been a positive and enriching experience for me. The online discussions and collaborative projects have enabled me to connect with peers and learn from their diverse experiences and perspectives. The support from tutors like Phoebe and Chelsea, and the comprehensive feedback on assignments, have also been instrumental in my growth as an early childhood educator.
What’s next?
I plan to focus on learning Te Reo Māori. This will allow me to better connect with and support the diverse communities I work with, and will enrich my understanding of New Zealand’s cultural heritage. Additionally, I’ll continue to deepen my expertise in early childhood education, particularly in inclusive practices and supporting children with ASD.
