Faith Britton is empowering future kaiako
Balancing work, study, and whānau, Faith has grown into a confident kaiako, committed to nurturing tamariki and creating inclusive learning spaces.
In the dynamic field of early childhood education (ECE), the journey of a passionate teacher shapes the learning experiences of tamariki across Aotearoa. New Zealand Tertiary College (NZTC), a leader in ECE training, continues to empower teachers by providing flexible learning pathways that align with their aspirations and responsibilities.
For many, the calling to ECE begins at an early age. For Faith, her passion for working with children naturally led to a career in the sector. “I started my journey at 17, transitioning from my role as a checkout supervisor at Countdown into a profession that truly aligned with my values—supporting children's development and learning.”
Born and raised in Whangārei, Aotearoa, and of proud Māori descent, Faith credits her upbringing for instilling a strong sense of community and the values of whanaungatanga and manaakitanga—principles that continue to shape their approach as a teacher.
Throughout Faith’s career, she has been guided by experienced and knowledgeable kaiako whose dedication to the profession has been a source of inspiration. However, her greatest motivation comes from their two young sons. “They encourage me daily to grow, both personally and professionally.”
Faith found NZTC’s approach flexible and invaluable to her study journey. “NZTC offered the balance I needed to succeed in both my career and my commitment to my whānau.”
Studying online meant access to resources anytime, a personalised learning pace, and strong support from lecturers. One standout educator, Chel Freeman, provided invaluable guidance through challenging moments, offering encouragement and belief that propelled success for Faith.
Looking ahead, Faith remains committed to continuous growth, leadership development, and deepening their expertise in ECE.
