Yuee Chen
Name: Yuee Chen
Qualification: Graduate Diploma in Teaching (Early Childhood Education)
Chinese student, Yuee Chen, knew she wanted to pursue a career in early childhood as soon as she graduated high school.
“I had the opportunity to undergo some work experience in a kindergarten, and it was during this time I realised my passion for teaching.
“Knowing I am an influential part of a child’s learning and growth gives me a great sense of satisfaction and achievement. The love and trust children radiate makes my heart melt. Because of this, I decided to enrol in a Graduate Diploma in Teaching (Early Childhood Education) with New Zealand Tertiary College (NZTC).”
Yuee researched many institutions offering early childhood qualifications before deciding on NZTC.
“I really liked that I had the opportunity to engage in field practice throughout my study. I was able to work as a relief teacher in a kindergarten which provided a great opportunity to gain valuable work experience.
“I believe this is a huge advantage, particularly when applying for work, as the job market in New Zealand is very experience-orientated. Hands-on experience definitely plays such a crucial part in the process of becoming a professional ECE teacher.”
Yuee also enjoyed the structure of the online learning environment.
“If you are looking for a course with flexible learning modes to work around your different commitments, I believe NZTC is your best choice.”
The course content has taught Yuee many valuable lessons.
“I’ve learnt that theory is the foundation of practice. Only when I have a good understanding of different theories can I gain a better understanding of children. The knowledge I’ve accumulated through study has helped me to understand this, and the reasons behind a child’s behaviour. It is also great to apply these theories into practice, and analyse the difference between theoretical and practical perspectives.”
Yuee is currently working full-time as a permanent teacher with KinderCare, and has recently received her New Zealand residency. She is now aiming for her full teaching registration and is loving every moment of the journey.
“I found the process of graduating from NZTC, finding employment in my field, and then gaining my residency a very positive experience. I am really proud of everything I have achieved, and am extremely grateful for all the opportunities that have allowed me to achieve my dream.”
