Name: Shuchita Jain
Qualification: Master of Early Childhood Education
Ambitious graduate, Shuchita Jain, recently celebrated the immense achievement of completing the Master of Early Childhood Education qualification with New Zealand Tertiary College (NZTC).
“I’ve always loved learning and have an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. I hold current qualifications in the science, education, and English areas, as I relish the opportunity to challenge myself.
“After years of working in the primary wing of a school in India, I decided I wanted to explore early childhood, as it is such a crucial phase of child development and New Zealand’s curriculum really attracted my attention.”
Shuchita felt confident that enrolling with NZTC was the right choice.
“NZTC was one of the first tertiary institutes I came across in my search to find globally recognised early childhood courses. I was impressed with the competent teaching staff and encouraging student experiences that eased my decision in choosing the college.”
The support offered by NZTC – particularly during the height of Covid-19 – meant that Shuchita was able to successfully complete her studies.
“Being a mum, a wife, an employee, and a student isn’t always easy - even more so during these challenging times. But since day one, I felt fully supported. I had complete access to relevant course materials, and the online discussion forum and additional materials supplied by lecturers were highly useful. Through a trail of messages, phone calls, emails, or ZOOM calls, my lecturers ensured that my questions were answered and I had clarity around course concepts and assignments.
“I really appreciated the caring phone calls from Pastoral Support who would contact me with safety reminders and to just see how I was faring. I feel that the support I received from everyone at the college really helped to maintain meritorious grades for my assignments in my final semester. I felt confident to form my own perceptions and understandings of the content based on my personal experiences, and I could see the practical applicability of learnt concepts which really helped to broaden my thinking.”
Currently employed as a relief teacher, Shuchita says the knowledge learnt through her qualification has been extremely enriching.
“My studies have strengthened me emotionally and intellectually. I’ve learnt about the various familial, socio-cultural, psychological and behavioural aspects responsible for the attitudinal framework of the fragile mind of a child.
“All of the courses were comprehensive and well-structured. I particularly enjoyed exploring topics such as emotional intelligence in authentic leadership, the relevance of art in early childhood education, the interdependence and role of various communities, and the intricacies involved in working with adults.”
Shuchita now plans to continue enjoying practical experience in her centre, before embarking on her PhD in early childhood.
