Ramandeep Kaur
Name: Ramandeep Kaur
Qualification: Graduate Diploma in Teaching (Early Childhood Education)
After completing NZTC’s Graduate Diploma in Teaching (ECE), Ramandeep Kaur feels her studies have given her a professional edge, leading the way to her dream job as a fully registered early childhood teacher.
“Teaching is a career I have always wanted to pursue and one that I am passionate about, it is a great responsibility and I love walking alongside children as they achieve their goals.
“NZTC stood out as a clear choice because of its excellence in the field of early childhood education. Also, for those who are currently employed or have other responsibilities, the institution offers flexible study options.”
Kaur says enrolling with NZTC was the best decision she ever made and cherishes the Field Practice opportunities which increased her confidence in teaching.
“This practical component provided me with hands on experience in centres and I believe gave me an advantage over other students from different providers.
“When I first began teaching, I faced numerous challenges, including a loss of confidence and a feeling that I was far removed from professional teaching methods. However, after Field Practices I felt more confident in my teaching ability.”
A former teacher in India, Kaur says she enjoyed learning about New Zealand’s highly regarded early childhood curriculum, Te Whāriki.
“I discovered a variety of learning and teaching strategies in New Zealand that were completely different from my previous teaching methods and practices. I’ve especially enjoyed learning tikanga and te reo Māori.
“I’m bilingual and I have a strong dedication to my cultural background and native language, Punjabi. I understand how important it is to share my culture and language with tamariki. Likewise, maintaining Māori language and culture for future generations is equally important.”
A highlight in her work is creating respectful, responsive and reciprocal relationships with whānau, and setting children up for success in the future.
“Teaching is my love, enjoyment, and encouragement, and positive feedback from parents and staff members has encouraged me during my placements, both in my home centre and out of home centre.
“I've witnessed how much of an impact teachers have on children. They are more than simply instructors, they are role models who inspire and drive students both inside and outside of the classroom.”
