Qualification: Graduate Diploma in Teaching (Early Childhood Education)

After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Auckland, Chinese student Qimeng Zhang chose to enrol in the Graduate Diploma in Teaching (Early Childhood Education) with New Zealand Tertiary College (NZTC) to pursue an interest in ECE.

“Growing up as an only child, it was always my wish to have younger siblings to spend time with. I was inspired to study ECE so I could share my love and passion for kids through teaching, which I think is a highly regarded profession in society.”

NZTC was the obvious choice for Qimeng who had already heard many positive things about the college.

“NZTC has a high reputation amongst the early childhood sector and is a popular choice for international students.

“With a degree already under my belt, I knew NZTC’s graduate teaching qualification would be ideal as the chances of finding a job at the end are very high, and New Zealand Teacher Registration can also be applied for. As someone looking to create a life in this beautiful country, this is extremely helpful.”

Full of praise for the support NZTC offers through its online mode of learning, Qimeng has also found value in exploring New Zealand’s early childhood curriculum Te Whāriki.

“The NZTC Online learning platform is extremely convenient to use. It provides quick access to a range of services and resources. The college staff are friendly and easy to reach, and are always helpful in answering my questions.

“I really like the principles that stem from the unique features of Te Whāriki. For me, the curriculum symbolises the admirable spirit of New Zealand. For instance, it focuses on building positive ECE relationships which I think is something very important.”

Qimeng has also been enjoying New Zealand’s high standard of living.

“New Zealand has a very a safe and stable environment. I enjoy the easy-going and relaxed atmosphere here which is different to many other countries I have been to. New Zealanders are extremely friendly and caring which I like.

“Ultimately, living here provides me with unique opportunities for fulfilling my ECE dream.”
