Ashley Bong Jing Wen

Name: Ashley Bong Jing Wen

Qualification: New Zealand Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care (Level 6)

Right from a young age, Ashley Bong Jing Wen dreamed of a career in early childhood.

“I couldn’t wait to finish high school and start planning my journey towards becoming a qualified teacher. A few years ago, one of my agents told me about her experience of studying in New Zealand and this really inspired me.

“I ended up enrolling in the New Zealand Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care (Level 6) with New Zealand Tertiary College (NZTC) so I could gain a solid introduction into the world of ECE.”

After settling in to her new routine, Ashley knew she had made the right decision.

“Once New Zealand became my home, I felt so comfortable and relaxed. Living and studying here is convenient – especially the public transport. In the future I would love to dedicate time to travelling and discovering more beautiful places around the country.”

Now partway through the Level 6 program, Ashley says her NZTC studies provide an opportunity for valuable growth and development.

“I love the Field Practice component of my courses. It’s a chance for me to put my learning into practice and receive feedback so I can keep improving my teaching abilities.

“New Zealand’s ECE curriculum also helps me a lot. If I am unsure about a concept I refer to Te Whāriki to help guide me in my responsibilities as an educator.”

With plans of also completing NZTC’s Bachelor of Teaching (ECE) program to gain New Zealand Teacher Registration, Ashley is looking forward to the world of opportunity that awaits her.

“Once I am fully qualified, I plan on staying and teaching in New Zealand, so I can further develop my sector knowledge and experience.

“Eventually, I would also consider pursuing postgraduate study, and am interested in one day opening my own early childhood centre in Malaysia – my home country – so I can provide children with a quality learning environment.”
