Knowledge on Stroke – Supporting survivors, families and carers will be shared at New Zealand Tertiary College (NZTC)’s first professional development events of 2019.

Held at NZTC’s Auckland and Christchurch campuses, the free informative evenings are open to all and widely attended by care professionals with sessions often reaching capacity. At each event an industry expert shares knowledge and leads discussions on topics of interest to the healthcare sector.

Community Stroke Advisor for the Stroke Foundation Elaine Cottam will speak at the Christchurch event on Tuesday 19 March 2019 and Stroke Foundation (Auckland and Northland) General Manager Don Scandrett will present at the Auckland event on Tuesday 26 March 2019.

Elaine’s work involves supporting stroke survivors and their whānau as well as educating the public on reducing risk factors and recognising the signs of a stroke using the FAST message.

Don is a member of the Northern Region Stroke Network Group and Auckland DHB Stroke Steering Group. He spends a lot of time in the clinical space, including teaching students from the University of Auckland Medical School.

Topics of discussion will include supporting stroke survivors and their families as well as practical care strategies for stroke survivors. Attendees will receive a certificate of attendance and a gift bag.
